How can marketeers help solve the problem of hate speech and climate misinformation?

24. March 2023 @ 09:00 - 10:00

Free

The internet is ripe with hate speech and misinformation about climate change, and it can seem like an impossible challenge to curb this development. But marketeers and brands can play a crucial role in curbing this problem by taking an active stand on where their ads are placed.

The international organization Check My Ads has taken millions out of the disinformation economy and has disrupted bad actors like Steve Bannon, Dan Bongino and Charlie Kirk who are known for spreading hate speech, misogyny and false information about climate change.

Co-founder of Check My Ads, Claire Atkin visits KreaKom in collaboration with KR Foundation to give a talk on starting the adtech industry’s first watchdog and how marketeers are key in curbing rasism, misogony and misinformation about climate change online. Claire is a leading brand safety advocate, she is a trusted advisor to Fortune 500 brands, government officials, and national security researchers. Her work centers around building new sustainable standards in digital advertising while dismantling the ad-funded disinformation economy. Her work intersects the economics of digital marketing, media, and disinformation to expose where ads end up online and guide advertisers on how to regain control over their ad campaigns to align their advertising dollars with their corporate values.

Her work has appeared in Fortune, WIRED, DigiDay, FastCompany, AdWeek, Buzzfeed, CBC, and The Guardian. She has a certificate in International Election Observation from the Global Campus for Human Rights, and a Masters in Geography from the University of McMaster.

At this event, you will also meet Stefan Jin Hansen, Chief Product Officer at the media agency dentsu. Stefan will share his perspectives on how media agencies work with brand safety in media buying at global and local level. Stefan is a pioneer in data driven marketing and programmatic media buying having built and lead Amnet (the dentsu programmatic agency) for over 5 years.

Stefan has massive in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with data, programmatic, ad technologies.
